Context: Girl Scouting in the School Day (a part of Staff Led Programs) has been providing programming at Graham Hill for over 7 years! Staff have served as troop leaders during lunch/recess time and offered after school opportunities such as Girl Scout cookie sales, camp, workshops, and events. This program originally began to provide increased access to Girl Scout experiences by reducing barriers to participation. Other staff led programs throughout Western Washington provide similar access to quality programs for girls.

For the 2018-2019 school year… Some changes have been in the works at Girl Scouts of Western Washington and in Staff Led Programs.  We are slowly transitioning away from having staff deliver programming as troop leaders. The main reasons for this are:

  • It is not the Girl Scout model. Troops and most programs are led by volunteer leaders. Not only does this transition mean we can serve more girls, it also means that adults have access to leadership training, fun experiences, and quality time spent with the girls in their lives.
  • We are dedicated to serving girls who have been traditionally underrepresented in our council. If staff are not providing direct service, we will be able to offer hands-on support in other ways to more youth and adult volunteers.

Therefore, next year at Graham Hill, I will not be a troop leader. Instead, I will be helping volunteer leaders form and run Girl Scout troops and programs.

Please keep in mind:

  • Girl Scouts at Graham Hill will continue, it will just look different! Several volunteers have already come forward.
  • This is an opportunity for the Graham Hill community to decide how Girl Scouts should look, and what would be best for girls and families.
  • We are still in the process of coming up with the best structure to provide quality programs to all girls who wish to participate at Graham Hill. There are many ways to be involved!
  • We value your feedback! If you have ideas about what this program should look like, please let me know! Your voice is invaluable to this process.

I consider myself incredibly lucky to be a part of the Graham Hill community. Thank you for including me, and for making girl empowerment a priority!

Annual Auction: We need YOU!

Our Annual Auction is April 21st!! The PTA’s Annual Auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We have an amazing and dedicated group of parents who are making this event happen, and they need help. We cannot expect the PTA to fund what we do if we don’t come together as a community and make the auction a success. Our annual auction traditionally raises upwards of Forty Thousand Dollars, $40,000.00. This money is what keeps our kids safe as they cross the street in the morning and at recess, helps purchase the curriculum teachers need, allows us to celebrate our teachers and staff with appreciation events, provides scholarships so ALL students can participate in IslandWood, pays for Discover Dance, allows us to fund events like Dia De Los Muertos, Heritage Night and The LGBTQ Ice Cream Social, allows us to give scholarships so ALL students can go on field trips and enjoy after school programming, and much more. There are many ways you can get involved:

*Volunteer to work the auction, helping with set-up or clean-up.
*Volunteer your expertise in LAN networks to set-up the computers day-of. Or if your uncle or your niece are experts here, please ask them to help! Family members can be a part of Graham Hill, too!!
*Invite members of the community to buy a table at the auction. Our Family, Friends and Neighbors are stakeholders in the success of Graham Hill, and more often that not they want to help.
*Start talking to your fellow parents and guardians about the auction, make people aware it is happening and get them engaged.
**Please contact Kathryn Lynch to get involved!!

Raise Money for the PTA while you shop!

As you are shopping this holiday season, please consider these two very easy ways to raise funds for the Graham Hill PTA:

They have a very similar name, but are not the same program. eScrip is run entirely online. Once you have registered with Graham Hill as your non-profit, every time you access your online shopping though eScrip and retailers will give back an average of 3% to Graham Hill’s PTA! You can even register your credit cards to then make money for the PTA when you eat out at participating restaurants.
  • You create an account and enter the Graham Hill PTA ID#: 8562794
  • You start shopping online. This is a much better place to start when ordering through Amazon, since Graham Hill will receive 1.4% of all dollars spent rather than the .04% we receive from Amazon Smile.
  • Please note that Bartell’s is a part of the eScrip program. Please sign up for their BCaring card at any Bartell’s and then register that card in your eScrip account. Bartell’s will then donate 4% of the amount you spend to Graham Hill’s PTA when you use the card!

Scrip is fundraising while you shop®! You buy gift cards for over 780 retailer brands you already shop at and earn a rebate on every gift card you purchase at face value. That rebate goes right to our PTA.

Creating an Account:

  • You’ll need to enter our enrollment code which will link your account to our organization.
  • ENROLLMENT CODE: 334525AF57L46
  • You order pre-loaded cards to spend at merchants and they donate a percentage of the card value to Graham Hill’s PTA:
    • 13% donated from Bath & Body Works
    • 11% donated from Chili’s
    • 10% donated from Macy’s
    • 14% donated from The GAP
